How To Have More Pain

Pain is a signal from the body that something is wrong and to please fix it. But don’t worry about underlying causes; just take the pain medication of your choice and turn that signal off, fast.

Try to put your attention on something else: another part of your body or something outside your body. Resume your normal daily activities as soon as possible, just as if all is fine, same as if you didn’t have any pain at all.

Avoid trying to localize or classify your pain. That is to say, don’t try to figure out exactly where it hurts, and don’t try to describe your pain as a “stabbing” pain or “burning” pain. All pain can be described as some sort of body damage or disease process — but you don’t need to go there. Just think about something else. And never try to figure out just exactly what pain is.

Eventually, your body will take the attitude that “if I have to shout to be heard, then I’ll shout”. But that’s okay. There are always stronger pain medications.

Find yourself a doctor who believes his main mission in life is the elimination of pain; not addressing the underlying disease or injury. There are even specialized pain and headache clinics. Ask about a prescription for Oxycontin — a powerful opioid.

Consider yourself successful if you have no pain at all, even if the underlying disease process runs unchecked. You put yourself at risk of feeling just fine one minute, and suddenly keeling over dead the next, but at least you can do it without pain. Unless and until your body breaks through the wall of pain relief you’ve created. Then it will be worse then ever.
