In addition to brushing

You brush your teeth, right? I do. And as often as you should? I do. (Okay, no, not really.)

Helping preserve your teeth

But what can you do IN ADDITION to brushing, that will help preserve your teeth?

One favorite technique of mine is to wipe them down with what I call “tooth cleaners”. These are just strips of rough absorbent paper that remove ALL the pasty soft stuff on your teeth — the stuff that causes cavities.

I like Scott Rags in a Box; rolls of rough paper that’s available in hardware stores. I cut them into 10 × 3/4 in or 26 × 2 cm strips, and rub them against my teeth (the outsides) — it gets them really clean! You can carry the strips with you and clean your teeth anywhere you are.

Another technique is to avoid “acid mouth” — if your body gets too acidic, it will acidify your mouth in an attempt to dissolve your teeth and provide much needed alkalinity for your body’s core. (Nice for your core, but not so nice for your teeth. They will become riddled with cavities.)

So what I do is take a chewable antacid tablet — like Tums or Rennie — crunch it up a bit, then hold the crumbs in my mouth for at least 20 seconds. This neutralizes the mouth acids.

I won’t say my teeth are in perfect condition, but except for my baby teeth and my wisdom teeth (which I had had pulled years ago) I still have ALL my natural teeth.

Beware the wet kiss

If you have a reputation for giving wet kisses, that means your mouth is producing acid on overdrive. Fix it using the methods listed above, and quick!

And when you do brush

When you do brush, always use the hardest toothbrush you can stand. It gets your teeth cleaner and they get cleaner faster. I use a “denture” toothbrush; it had bristles coming out of both sides, but I cut one side away, filled in the little holes with Cyanoacrylate (one drop) glue, then sanded it down. I works like a champ!

  1. I truly love your blog.. Very nice colors & theme. Did you create this
web site yourself? Please reply back as I’m hoping to create my very own site and want to know where you got this from or what the theme is called.
    Cheers!

    1. I’m using the Type theme; although I didn’t choose between various themes, I just went along with the one my Tech recommended.

I created this site with professional help (although I was the one who planned out the purpose of the blog and how it would be organized). At the bottom left of every page is a link to the web site of my web Tech.

    2. I built it with some professional help (see the lower left corner of this page), but I basically planned the purpose and format of this blog. The theme is the Type theme that comes free with WordPress.

  2. I really haven’t had any problem with hackers. I do have a big problem with spammers; I’ve had to set WordPress to force every post to be held until I could manually approve them one by one.

  3. The main thing is to back up your site frequently. My host does daily backups and occasionally I do my own backups too.

  4. And my sincere apologies for not approving your comment sooner. I’ve been inundated with spam comments; I’ve had to route every comment made to a manual approval queue and review them when I can.

One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to better keep up with the comments and the contacts.

  5. I am really enjoying the theme/design of your weblog. Do you ever run into any web browser compatibility issues? A couple of my blog visitors have complained about my site not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Chrome. Do you have any solutions to help fix this issue?|
